Meet the Team
Storm Lawrence, Chair, appointed July 2013
Storm graduated from Bristol University after studying Psychology. After graduating she began working for London Youth, working in youth action. She is currently the Youth Leadership Officer for Talent Match London, an employability programme. Storm also recently interned with the World Food Programme in Uganda. She is now studying a Masters in Emerging Economies and Inclusive Development at Kings College London. From volunteering in Nepal in her first year to becoming Nepal Project Parent and then Vice President in her final year, BVDA defined her university experience. She is currently Chair of the trustee board, supporting others in their roles, ensuring that the charity is achieving each milestone and ultimately working towards its aims and strategy.
Eleri Dare Edwards, Vice Chair, appointed Feb 2015
Eleri studied Geography with French at Bristol University and was involved with BVDA throughout: volunteering on both the Rwanda and India summer projects as well as on the committee. When she graduated she worked in Rwanda with our partner for 9 months and since then she has been managing the Bristol branch of the youth social action charity Student Hubs. Eleri is Vice-Chair on the board of trustees whilst also having specific responsibility for Monitoring and Evaluation, supporting the committee to develop and embed M&E into the organisation and ensuring quality and consistency over the years.
Emma Bruce, Projects and Risk, appointed Feb 2015
Emma volunteered for BVDA whilst studying law at Bristol University. She went on the Uganda project, and loved it so much she has found it hard to leave. Since then she has been the Fundraiser, President and now Projects and Risk Trustee. With Eleri, she also took part in the Long-term Capacity Building Project in Rwanda in 2012, which involved living and working alongside RVCP for 9 months. Emma is currently training to become a teacher in London.
Mike Mullally, treasurer, appointed Oct 2015
Mike obtained a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at Loughborough University, spending a year working in industry and six months in France. Mike has worked in finance since 2011 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2014. His current role involves advising governments and private sector clients on the financial aspects of large transport projects. As the Trustee Treasurer Mike’s main responsibilities include supporting the Committee Treasurer, preparing the annual accounts, scrutinising project budgets and ensuring that there are proper financial controls in place to safeguard BVDA’s assets. As well as financial expertise, Mike brings a dispassionate perspective having not been a student member of BVDA and not having experience of working in the charity sector.
Suzanne Root, committee liaison, appointed Feb 2015
Suzy studied medicine at Bristol University and volunteered with BVDA in Nepal in 2008. She went on to be the website officer for BVDA. Since graduating, Suzy has worked as a junior doctor in London and Brighton, and spent a year living and working in Kenya. She is now training to be a GP back in Bristol. Suzy has been involved in creating BVDA’s annual report and strategy and is currently the committee point of contact on the board, supporting and troubleshooting with the committee. Suzy is passionate about the grassroots work that BVDA does, and enjoys working with the hard working student committee to help BVDA fill its aims.
